Rugby fans, whether you follow the international or the local league are in for a treat as the International Barbarians are coming down under to tour Australia to face the Wallabies in a two game match beginning October 24.
Home Field Advantage?
If you’re still on the fence on whether or not you should go out to Lismore or Sydney for the Barbarians game, then you should know that these will be the last games for the Wallabies before they go on the road. So, this is the perfect time to take a few days off work, grab a few of your mates, some beer, and enjoy some rugby.
Some of the players you can expect to see on Crozier Field and Allianz Stadium include Quade Cooper for the Barbarians who is out to get revenge on the Classic Wallabies coach Michael Cheika.
Fans can expect a lot out of this game, with Barbarians coach Alan Jones and team captain Quade Cooper having some history with the Classic Wallabies.
Alan Jones is best known for coaching and leading the Classic Wallabies to a grand slam in 1984, and for hosting the morning radio show 2GB.
He drew flack last season for criticising the Australian Rugby Union (ARU), claiming that the board members knew nothing about the sport of Rugby.
He made his statements heard through his radio show and through the press, making it very clear that he was not pleased with how things in the ARU are being handled.
Meanwhile, his selected team captain Quade Cooper also has his own personal reasons coming back to face his former team.
Cooper had an injury-free year but was mostly left out of the Wallabies’ squad for the Rugby Championship Tournament.
According to Wallabies’ coach Cheika, he left Cooper out because he believed that he wasn’t performing as well as he had hoped.
This is one of the reasons Alan Jones chose Cooper to lead the way against the Wallabies in their match later this month. To show the Wallabies and Cheika that they were wrong about his performance.
Support your team!
There are several ways you can show your support to your favourite rugby team, but of course, the best way is to show up to the stadium yourself and root for them until your lungs give out.
The International Barbarians and the Classic Wallabies will be playing in two locations this month:
October 24 – Crozier Field, Lismore
October 28- Allianz Stadium, Sydney
Whether you’ll be rooting for the Barbarians and Cooper to defeat Cheika and the Wallabies, or supporting your local team, don’t forget to enjoy your time watching one of the most popular sports in Australia.
