Mother's Day, Sunday 9 May
Mother's Day is this Sunday, 9 May and anyone hoping to spoil that special mother in their life have many wonderful options on the day. Many local cafes and restaurants put together breakfast, lunch and dinner specials for mothers. There are also great activities and events organised for the day, three of which are below.
Head out for some action-packed Tennis
The Queensland Tennis Centre is hosting the Davis Cup this weekend. It is the first time in over a decade the Davis Cup has been held in Brisbane and it promises to be an action-packed event with Australia playing against Japan. The action can be viewed at 3pm Friday or 1pm on Saturday or Sunday. For those tennis-loving mums out there could there be a better Mother's Day present and day out? For more information head to the Tennis Australia website: www.tennis.com.au.
Relax with a visit to Somerset Dam
For those mothers after a little bit of peace, quiet and nature, Somerset Dam is a great day trip from Brisbane. A one hour drive from Brisbane towards Kilcoy sees you arriving at Somerset dam, one of the city's most important water catchment areas. It is also a great place to go for a bush walk, fish, take part in water sports or just take in the local scenery of rolling hills. There are some interesting townships and countryside to exploring and take a drive through as well.
Take mum to the Movies
Mums love a good movie and the chance to see them as a family. For a movie event with a twist mums can catch the last week of Eumundi's Flicks in the Sticks outdoor cinema which runs through summer. This Sunday night its a mum's favourite playing as well, Chocolat - its got French countryside, chocolate and Johnny Depp! The film starts at 6.15pm and is located at Eumundi Showgrounds.
