The Michelin® Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix is happening on October 20 to 22 this year. Phillip Island in Australia will be the host, and it is actually very exciting as the Phillip Island circuit is an iconic venue when it comes to the motorsport world.
The event has been around in Australia since 1989, and every year, racers showcase their amazing talents. Prominent Australian racers include Troy Bayliss, Casey Stoner, Garnder, and Mick Doohan.
About the Event
The Phillip Island track has always been the MotoGP organizers’ first choice since 1989. The length of the track is at 4.4 kilometres or 2.76 miles. It has 7 left corners and 5 right corners, and the width is at 13 metres or 42.65 feet.
So far, the circuit record is at 1’28.108 by Marc Marquez in 2013. His top speed was at 348 kilometres per hour back then, which is super fast and impressive. Casey Stoner has the most wins at 6.
Jorge Lorenzo holds the record for the fastest lap and best pole, while Andrea Dovizioso is unbeatable when it comes to speed. Last year’s Grand Prix winner was Cal Crutchlow with 25 points and a speed of 176.5 kilometres per hour.
Phillip Island offers plenty of accommodation. You can easily find one that suits your budget. A hotel that we can recommend though, is the Ramada Resort Phillip Island. It is just a 7-minute drive from the MotoGP event location, making it the perfect temporary home for your 3-day stay at the island.
They have studio rooms and two and three bedroom cottages complete with a well-equipped kitchen and outdoor deck.
When you are done watching the races and supporting your favourite racer, you can go ahead and relax at your hotel and enjoy the amazing amenities that it offers: a cafe and bar, two outdoor swimming pools, two health centres, gym, spa and sauna, indoor lap pool, tennis courts, barbecue facilities, and bicycle and walking trails. You have to book early though, as it can get pretty crowded during the event.
