fireworks display on Sydney Harbour

New Year’s Eve in Sydney

New Year’s Eve in Sydney is celebrated in the heat of summer. Meanwhile, the rest of the world enjoy winter and the cold breeze that comes with it.

New Year’s Eve in Sydney

If you’re going to be spending the holidays in Sydney this year, take a trip to Sydney Harbour. Here, you can see the sky light up with bright lights as we usher in 2019.

Fireworks won’t be the only thing to look forward to on New Year’s Eve in Sydney. Your entire day will be packed with entertainment you can only get at this time of year. Clear your schedules, make plans, book a car for the evening, and enjoy the fireworks.

Your evening will start at 6 in the evening with a pre-show entertainment. A tugboat will take centre stage at Sydney Harbour with a water display that will be followed by an aerial performance.

After that, witness the Country and Smoking Ceremony where the Gadigal Elders welcome the visitors and conduct the ritual of purification and unity to start the rest of the evening’s events.

To give younger spectators a chance to see the fireworks before bedtime, the Family Fireworks starts at 9 in the evening. The fireworks will launch from the Sydney Harbour Bridge and will feature the winning entries from the ABC’s Design Your Own Firework Competition.

The main event starts at midnight. The firing points will be from Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Sydney Opera House as well as barges. Watch as these fireworks light up the sky and ring in the new year with a bang.

The Sydney New Year’s Eve event is free. So come to the venue with as many of your friends and family as you wish. If you’re coming from the Parramatta area, hire a car to drive yourself to the venue to avoid any delay.
