Gold Coast airport or Coolangatta airport, is an Australian domestic and international airport. The runway lies on the border between Queensland and New South Wales. If you have some down time while waiting for flights, why not check out some the many shopping options available, or sit down for a meal at one of the convenient places to eat? If you’re flying with children, there’s no need to fret, as there are stores offering plenty of distractions for kids too. The airport offers free wifi access, giving you the opportunity to keep on top of those emails, or surf the web.
Renting a car from the Gold Coast airport will give you access to enjoy not only the Coast itself, Surfers Paradise and the Gold Coast Hinterland, but Brisbane too - a short 45 minute drive north. Head south instead and the Pacific Motorway gives you access to New South Wales including Byron Bay. Our experienced and friendly staff can get you into a great deal on a hire car to suit any budget, plus our free airport transfers give you convenient access to our depot to collect your vehicle.
The Gold Coast has mild winters and warm and humid summers, providing visitors with a humid, subtropical climate. Gold Coast and surrounding areas earnt the name of “the Summer blues” due to large amounts of summer precipitation (while winters are warm and fairly dry). Visit the Queensland Weather and Warnings page for more info.

Sandra , February 2013I found all the staff very helpful. A chap called winston who met me at 5.50am when I bought the car back was happy and cheerfully, then more than helpful when our flight was cancelled, he sent the taxi back to the airport to pick us up then made all the arrangements for us to keep the car and give it back at your gold coast office without any fuss. With staff like him and the others no wonder you have the best car rental company in australia, it is a pity you are not yet operating in sydney. I have always recommend Alpha to anyone going to queensland and will keep doing so. Thank you to all the Alpha staff.

Theme Parks on the Gold Coast
Regardless of how old you are, you are bound to have lots of fun at one of the famous theme parks and there really is something for everyone. The biggest theme park on the Gold Coast is Dreamworld , with over 27 rides, animal exhibits, shows and merchandise stores. Dreamworld lends its backyard to the TV show ‘Big Brother’ and has a water park next door, White Water World. Main attractions include The Giant Drop, Tiger Island, Tower of Terror and the Claw.
Movie World, as the name suggests is a movie related theme park with rides such as the Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster, Superman Escape and Looney Tunes Splash Zone. Take a photo with your favourite characters and then watch the superheros and villains for the Star Parade. The Hollywood Stunt Driver show is a must-see with real movie effects and stunts that you need to see to believe!
Next door is Wet ‘n‘ Wild which has heated water in winter, so there is never a reason not to go. From a lazy float around Calypso Beach and the giant wave pool, to the speed of the AquaLoop and Kamikaze rides, there is something your speed.
Sea World is a theme park you can literally live at for your whole trip as they have Sea World Nara Resort joined to the theme park. There are the thrill rides and the water park but Sea World is better known for their amazing animal exhibits. Whether you are seeing the adorable penguins and polar bears, swimming with the sharks or watching one of the live shows, there is something that will leave you amazed.
Exploring Northern NSW
For a relaxing yet amazing experience, we recommend to head to Northern NSW as there are a lot of travel destinations that get forgotten about. Tweed Heads is the first town past the Queensland border and home of two unique sites – Point Danger and Captain Cook Memorial.
Stop by Byron Bay, a popular destination for backpackers and young tourists because of the stunning views of the beaches. The Buddha Restaurant and O-Sushi are popular places to dine or you could jump aboard whale watching tour to experience these playful creatures. For something different why not go for a night vision walk to see the nocturnal animals in their national habitat. Byron Bay also plays host to the popular Blues & Roots Festival and Splendour in the grass which attracts people from all over the country.
Another destination in Northern NSW is Tamworth, home of the 2nd biggest Country Music Festival in the world. Yamba, Coffs Harbour, Grafton and Port Macquarie are all part of the Northern New South Wales region.
